A little bit about the flat: We have 3 bedrooms (mine is in the photo), a large living/dining room, a bathroom, a kitchen, and a second toilet room off the kitchen, but it is a mess and doesn't work too well so it is for emergencies only. the floors are all tile. Yesterday service men (a team of 3- one who does all the work, one who his assistant, and the landlord's assistant) worked on the heater/air conditioner in the living area so that now works should the broken window let in too much cold air ; ). That is the only room with heat, but the bedrooms do all have air conditioners too. We won't need those for a while. The cabinet in the bathroom beside the toilet is actually our washing machine. The first time we tried it, it emptied into a drain on the floor beside it and also onto the floor around the toilet! It also left so much water in the clothes we had to hand wring them. Service men (a team of 3) have since been here and it now drains into the bathroom sink and actually wrings out the clothes. We have to hang dry everything. There is a clothes line off our balcony (I'll get a picture of that later) but we had to wash the clothes line and the clothes pins as the Cairo dust or it would have gone on all our clean wash ; ).
We have 2 wall mounted water heaters. 1 in the kitchen at the sink which is electric, and one above the washer in the bathroom which is gas. They both heat up the water very fast and VERY hot.
We are still waiting for them to fix the broken window, thank goodness the weather has been nice! When we do open the windows, we have to push back several dangling wires-- probably phone, cable, who knows! OSH would have a fit with that and some of the other electrical and plumbing fixes in the flat ; ).
Plumbing is sensitive here too. No TP in the toilet as it would clog up the system so you have to use a wastebasket-- but that is probably more than you want to know : O!
